>The CURTA CINEMA/RIO DE JANEIRO INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL is a
>non-competitive festival for 16mm and 35mm films that happens during the
>months of November/December, and will take place in the Banco do Brasil
>Cultural Centre, Espaço Unibanco Cinema, and Estação Botafogo Movie
>Theatres. It presents a broad panorama of the Brazilian and
>International short film production, being the main event in Rio de
>Janeiro for the exhibition and discussion of the importance of the short
>film in the film industry. It began to exhibit international shorts on
>its forth year, with

>REGULATIONS
>
>OBJECTIVES:
>The Festival aims to promote the short film and develop a greater
>reflection about the genre, trying to broaden the interchange between
>the Brazilian and International production. The International Programme
>will be composed of the most representative films of the 2000/2001
>production. The International Programmers have a method of analysing the
>thematic aspects portrayed by the short film, along with its technical
>quality, always trying to show the new paths trailed by the short film
>and its importance on the film production.
>
>Festival dates
>The 11th Mostra Curta Cinema - 7th Rio de Janeiro International Short
>Film Festival will take place from November 29th to December 9th 2001.
>
>ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
>a. maximum running time: 40 minutes.
>b. 35mm or 16mm films.
>
>RULES FOR ENTRY:
>a. There is no entry fee.
>b. The candidate should return a completed entry form and a VHS copy of
>the film, accompanied by synopsis, a minimum of 2 stills and/or
>transparencies and original and English dialog lists.
>c. All transport costs of VHS tapes and other material are on the
>sender's behalf. The shipping costs of the prints of the selected films
>for the Festival will be covered by the festival organizers, in the
>event that they cannot be sent via diplomatic pouch.
>d. Return of VHS tapes: all tapes sent for selection will become part of
>the Festival archives, on the understanding that they will be used
>strictly for cultural purposes with no commercial ends and only with the
>producers' consent.
>e. Deadline for Entries: all entry forms, requests for information and
>VHS tapes should be sent to the Festival address by September 15th 2001.
>f. Notice of Shipment: applicants should inform the Festival office by
>fax or e-mail the date their entries were mailed and the shipping method
>used, including airway bills and registration or tracking numbers, as
>well as the contact information of the person responsible for the entry.
>g. Internet: Unless otherwise requested, all information contained on
>the entry form will be made public on the official Festival website:
>www.curtacinema.com.br. With the producer's authorization, we will place
>a 30" extract or preview of the film on the Festival website.

>FILM SELECTION:
>a. At least 35 productions will be selected for the Brazilian program
>and 90 for the International Panorama. The list of the selected films
>will be officially announced by October 25th 2001.
>b. The prints of selected films should reach the Festival offices by
>November 20th.
>c. Betacam tapes and other promotional materials should reach the
>Festival office by November 10th.
>d. Shipping procedures: whenever possible the prints should be sent to
>the Festival via the diplomatic services of the country of origin. If
>this option is not available, please contact the Festival organizers
>with regard to shipment by courier. Do not send the print by airfreight.
>The print should be clearly marked "For cultural purposes only, no
>commercial value" and it should be declared a maximum value of US$5 for
>customs purposes. The organizers of the Festival will not be responsible
>for prints shipped by any other method or with any other declared value
>for customs purposes.
>e. Applicants should inform the Festival by fax or e-mail regarding
>shipment of the prints - date sent, form of transport, AWB numbers etc.
>f. Prints will be returned within two weeks of the end of the Festival
>unless some other prior arrangement has been made. The Festival is
>responsible for the shipping costs of returning the prints.
>g. We will be offering 3 nights of hotel accommodations for one
>representative of each of the selected films during the Festival.

>AWARDS:
>Although the Festival is non-competitive, various short film sponsors
>may offer special awards to be announced during the closing ceremony.
