NYC

With: Orla Ryan and Brian Hand (Ireland), Sabrina Jones (New York) and
Bill Bartman (New York)

Bill Bartman will talk about the activities of Art Resources Transfer ,
a non profit organization, dedicated to the recording, documenting,
publishing and distributing artists’ voices. A.R.T. publishes books of
conversations between artists, organises shows and distributes books to
libraries in underserved communities through the D.U.C. Program. A.R.T.
has an exhibition space and a bookstore selling art titles, books on
architecture, photography and philosophy, exhibition catalogues,
critical studies, children’s books as well as all A.R.T. Press

World War 3 Illustrated is a political comic book that has been
published collectively by its contributors since 1980. Through
first-person graphic testimonies and artist/activist collaborations, WW3
has documented social movements from nuclear escalation to local housing
struggles. Co-editor Sabrina Jones will show slides and discuss the
survival of an artist - run project over the years.

Orla Ryan and Brian Hand will talk about a recent project called "The
New Books Library Project" (working-title) which establishes a new space
for artists and those interested in cultural debate, as well as a space
for new books about art and culture. "The New Books Library Project" is
a library that functions like a gallery where a limited number of
current publications will be displayed for reading, browsing and debate
in a given short term period. After each period of display the books
will enter the public library system to make a reference collection at a
library. Orla and Brian are both artists based in Dublin, Ireland.

NOMADS & RESIDENTS makes connections with people who live here and with
people who visit, by setting up an active network of collaborators, and
creating and organizing public events in a variety of places. NOMADS
&RESIDENTS invites artists, guests, curators, critics, activists,
travelers and passers-by to present insight into their practice, their
ideas, histories, and drives. The curatorial and organizing group of
NOMADS & RESIDENTS consists of New York based and temporary residents.
They actively seek out information about who is coming to New York and
when, they invite guests to present their ideas and solicit the
involvement of spaces where these presentations can take place. They
welcome advice, ideas and the support of others. The events will be
partly informal and casual, and will focus on exchanging ideas,
initiating new projects and networks. They will also include short
presentations, lectures, talks, sideshows, small exhibitions,
performances, discussions. Priority will be given to proposals that
could become projects that will be shared among the participants, to a
practice that can make resources and ideas available for common use.
