PRESSRELEASE
Curatorial Mutiny Part 2 , 'På Samma Våglängd' - Geoffrey Farmer,
Hans-Jörgen Johansen and Brian Jungen
KONSTAKUTEN April 7 - May 20.
Private View April 7, 7-10 pm.
'På Samma Våglängd' is an exhibition by Canadian artists Geoffrey Farmer
and Brian Jungen in collaboration with Swedish artist Hans-Jörgen Johansen
and part of an exchange between Konstakuten and Or Gallery of Vancouver.
The exhibition questions the notion of collaborative and individual work by
blurring the borders between the two and at the same time involving
collaborative and individual elements. Central to the exhibition is a large
mesmerising raft created by Jungen and Farmer. The raft balances between
functionality and symbolism and brings to mind diverse associations from
Huckleberry Finn to state of the art maritime life saving devices. This
duality is increased by the two miniature rafts that are displayed with
museiological zeal in glass cases on the sculpture and a video projection
of floating objects..
The raft's soundtrack is a low pitched humming and repetitive sound
emanating from a large loudspeaker. On closer look we find that a
microphone in the ceiling is placed next to a large slowly revolving fan
and hooked up to the loudspeaker is creating the sound. This device
creating the ominous sound is part of Hans-Jörgen Johansen's work. It is
coupled with a slightly disturbing six-pack of beer which has been
meticulously attached the wall. Each can has been painstakingly polished
leaving the aluminium bare. All six cans are held by a massive stainless
steel device that give these everyday consumer products an eerie presence.
Gömma Nyckel - Karin Persson.
INTENSIVEN - April 7-29.
For her installation at Intensiven Karin Persson has created a highly
refined piece of machinery. Following the parameters of the room (walls,
ceiling, floor, windows and fittings) is a string which is suspended by
innumerable little wheels. In one end a motor is pulling the string around
the space. If you look very carefully you will find a key attached to the
string which is continuously making the journey of the outer parameters of
the room.
The magic of the installation is the seemingly invisible structure that
totally fills the room taking such care to detail and making highly
suggestive remarks about inclusion and exclusion.
